Reflecting on Black Country Mental Health’s Milestone Anniversary

Well, we had a really fantastic day yesterday at Black Country Mental Health’s 50th Anniversary! Yes, Black Country Mental Health is 50 years old! That’s a whole 50 years of helping, changing, and saving lives. We will never know exactly how many lives these amazing people have saved, but if it wasn’t for them, this world would be a much emptier place.

And so, we were absolutely thrilled to have been invited along and to have been offered a chance to speak at the event as well. We heard emotional, hard-hitting stories, as well as some really uplifting stories too. Alongside that we got to meet some truly amazing people and add to our already fantastic base of contacts.

Enjoy a few photos from the event below and please join us in wishing Black Country Mental Health a fantastic, well-earned 50th birthday!

Exciting Updates on Mental Health Initiatives

Well, it has been a busy few months! Apologies to everyone for not keeping the website updated, that’s entirely my (Rich’s) fault! We have been keeping the socials updated though, so please use those for the most up-to-date info on what we’re up to.

Anyway… It’s time for a bit of a bumper update!

Mental Health First Aid Training

We’re pleased to announce that almost all of our directors are now MHFA trained! This was a fun, two day course run by our close friends and charity partners Black Country Mental Health. Off the back of this, we now have 3 fully qualified mental health first aiders in the ranks, and more to follow!

Continued Meet Ups

Obviously, we’ve been continuing our regular “Have a drink with us” events and we’re now looking at a number of other events that offer more options for folks that might want to get outside in the fresh air or even do some sports. Lots of potential options on the cards for the future so watch this space!

Fighting for our Green Spaces

Back in April, the Guardians turned out for a community-organised walk around “The Triangle”, an area of green space opposite the Summerhill School. This area is subject to an outline planning application for a few hundred new homes. Whilst the Guild is supportive of the need for new housing, as a men’s mental health organisation, we know first-hand how positive the effects of being out in nature can be for mental health. Therefore, we joined in to support the community in protest against the proposed estate. This involved walking and documenting the local plants and wildlife and was organised by the petition committee.

If nothing else, it was a great excuse just to get out and walk in the fresh air. It was a lovely morning and the walk was enjoyed by all!

A T-Shirt for the Rajput

Yesterday, Daz and I headed over to the Rajput to drop off a gift! For all their support and sponsorship, we presented Jak with a coveted, Guardians Guild t-shirt. We even got it printed in the proper colours! So, next time you’re enjoying a curry, keep your eyes open for the Guardians!

From Darkness to Light: Guardians Guild Meetup Highlights

I meant to post this a week ago but I swanned off on holiday the morning after and spent an entire week without signal! Sorry/not sorry…

Anyway… Another excellent night was had by all last week on Thursday when the Guardians had our second public meet up, again hosted at The Bridge Inn, followed by a fantastic curry over at Rajput in Wall Heath.

As you can see from the photos, we had a much bigger group this time around and it was great to meet new folks as well as some of the regular faces.

As always, the conversation touched on some really meaningful topics as we discussed what it means to really be in a dark place but also, most importantly, how we can help each other to never reach those dark places at all. This is what it means to be part of the Guardians Guild. Here in the Guardians, we don’t focus on the crossroads; the place we inevitably find ourselves at during the dark times. Our aim is to “shift left”; to teach each other how to never reach those crossroads in the first place.

And so… We implore you to look at yourself and think how often do you actually get out and enjoy yourself? How often do you have a couple of drinks and a curry with your mates? If the answer is “Not often enough”, then come along to our next meet and meet the friendship group you never knew you needed.

Check out our Events page for details of our next public meet or come along to one of our other events and just have a chat with one of the lads!

Highlights from Our First Guardians Guild Gathering

Our first Guardians Guild meet up was a great success!

We had two new faces at the meet up this week and we all had a great evening. The conversation flowed as easily as the beer and we all walked away feeling that a good night was had by all!

The feedback from our new attendees was excellent and we’re sure we’ll see them again at our next meet up.

We would love to thank The Bridge Inn, Kingswinford and Rajput, Wall Heath for hosting us and for being so accommodating.

We really hope to see more of you in the future!

AWW Partnership and a Radio Debut

We’re really pleased to announce that the Guardians Guild have been working with AWW – Alternative Wrestling World, volunteering at their public wrestling shows as stewards.

We’ve been keeping the crowd safe, whilst also promoting our work towards creating a stigma-free environment for men to speak about mental health. We are hoping that this will blossom into a really promising partnership and we fully intend to provide our services to every AWW show in the near future.

As you know, it can often be difficult for men to speak about their own mental health, which is why Rich and Daz also spent some time on Black Country Radio on February the 4th alongside our charity partners Black Country Mental Health. We had a great time, chatting about our own experiences and getting into some very deep conversations about the work we do here in the Guardians Guild.

Watch this space for more events as we continue to expand. We’ve got lots planned for the future, including launching our Guild phone line and social media pages. Watch this space!

Guardians Guild Shop is Now Live!

We are really pleased to announce that our shop is finally online. After a few ups and downs with trademarking, we have vaulted the final hurdle and are now getting things ready to really start building momentum.

As part of our soft launch you will see a limited edition “Low-Key” t-shirt for sale in the store right now. Grab it early and be one of the first to champion the guild.

LIMITED EDITION: Short-Sleeve Unisex Low-key Supporter T-Shirt

Price range: £17.00 through £18.50

Quiet design, loud impact. The Low-key Tee keeps it understated on the outside, but every purchase fuels men’s mental health. A low-key design with high‑stakes purpose—conspicuous in cause, not in style.

Our site is live and ready to go! Only a few tests left to complete and our official Garrison Guild online shop will also go live very shortly.

We hope the shop will be live by Friday 15th August. If it happens any sooner we will add a post to let you know.

Until then, have a listen to the Garrison Guild album over on the Music page and have a read of our story on the About page.
